From Call to Family Therapy: A Trauma-Informed Process at Calm Together
At Calm Together, we specialize in family therapy rooted in trauma-informed care, ensuring that the emotional and psychological safety of every family member is prioritized. Family therapy is a top-down therapeutic approach, focusing on engaging the thinking brain to promote responses rather than reactions. Here’s how we guide your family through the process, from initial contact to therapy sessions.
1. Free Initial Consultation
The journey begins with a free 20-minute consultation. During this conversation, we discuss your family’s concerns and explore how trauma-informed family therapy can help. This is your opportunity to ask questions and get a sense of how we can support your family’s healing process.
2. Onboarding Information
Following the consultation, we will provide an onboarding pack containing key information about our therapy process, our trauma-informed approach, confidentiality policies, and expectations for the assessment phase. You’ll also complete necessary forms to help us understand your family’s unique dynamics and needs.
3. Trauma-Informed Assessment Appointments
We conduct up to three trauma-informed assessment appointments to gain a thorough understanding of your family’s needs. These sessions help us evaluate relational dynamics, individual concerns, and how past trauma might influence family interactions. Our approach encourages family members to engage their thinking brain, allowing them to respond thoughtfully rather than react emotionally.
During this assessment period, we will carefully consider whether family therapy is the most appropriate next step. If family therapy is not indicated at this time, we may recommend alternative treatments, such as a period of one-to-one (1:1) therapy for certain family members to address individual needs before moving forward with family work.
4. Appointment Confirmation
You will receive confirmation of all assessment appointments, including the time, date, and location (or virtual link) via email. Our online booking system makes it easy to schedule and manage your appointments.
5. Decision to Move Ahead with Family Work
Following the assessments, we will meet with your family to discuss the results and determine the most suitable path forward. If family therapy is the right fit, we’ll move forward with the work. However, if the assessment indicates that family therapy is not the best approach at this time, we will recommend other therapeutic options, such as individual therapy or other supportive treatments, to address any specific needs before revisiting family therapy.
At Calm Together, our trauma-informed process ensures that each family member is supported in a thoughtful and safe manner. Whether through family therapy or alternative recommendations, we are committed to helping you achieve healing and growth. Contact us today to start your journey toward stronger family connections.
