Frequently asked Questions
“Is therapy right for me?”
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, low, stuck or simply curious about yourself, therapy can help. You don’t need a diagnosis or a crisis to start. Many people come because life feels heavy or confusing, and they want clarity and steadier ground.
“What happens in our first meeting?”
We talk—gently and at your pace. We’ll explore what’s brought you here, what matters to you, and what “feeling better” would look like. From there, we agree a plan together. Think of it as mapping the terrain before we start walking.
“I don’t have the words. Will therapy still work?”
Yes. Lots of people begin with “I’m not sure.” That’s okay. We use simple, respectful questions and nervous‑system calming tools to help you notice what’s happening, even when words are hard to find.
“I’ve experienced trauma. Can you help?”
This is our specialism. We draw on approaches like EMDR, Narrative Exposure Therapy, Trauma‑Focused CBT, DBT skills, and Polyvagal‑informed work. We start with safety and stabilisation, then move—only when you’re ready—towards processing and integrating what’s been overwhelming.
“Do you support couples and families?”
We do. Using a systemic lens, we look at patterns—how people react to each other, where conversations get stuck, and how repair can happen. We focus on building new, more supportive ways of being together.
“How will we know therapy is helping?”
We’ll agree clear, personal markers with you. That might be fewer panic spikes, easier sleep, calmer mornings, conversations that don’t spiral, feeling safer in your body, or simply more space to breathe. We check in regularly and adjust as we go.
“Is it confidential?”
Yes. Your sessions are a private, non‑judgmental space. We’ll explain how confidentiality works and answer any questions before we begin.
“Can I meet online?”
Absolutely. Many clients blend in‑person and remote sessions. We’ll find a rhythm that fits your life.
“What if therapy hasn’t worked for me in the past?”
That happens. It doesn’t mean change isn’t possible. We’ll explore what helped, what didn’t, and shape the pace and method to suit you—no rushing, no one‑size‑fits‑all. Fee’s range from £50 – £120 depending on qualifications and experience of our therapist.
“What does it cost?”
Fees vary by service (individual, couple, family; specialist therapies). We’ll walk you through options and agree what’s right for you before you commit.
“I’m in crisis right now—what should I do?”
If you’re at immediate risk, please contact emergency services or your local crisis team first. We are not a crisis response service, however when you’re safe, we can help you stabilise and plan longer‑term support.
A few real‑world examples (so you can picture the work)
- “I can’t switch off.”
We’ll teach simple regulation skills, gently rebalance your nervous system, and build habits that protect rest—so your body remembers calm and sleep comes easier. - “We keep having the same argument.”
We’ll slow the cycle, spot the triggers, and practise repair. Short pauses, clearer requests, kinder re‑entry. Less heat, more understanding. - “I feel numb, then flooded.”
We’ll widen your window of tolerance with skills for grounding and emotion regulation, so feelings feel manageable rather than all‑or‑nothing.
